Our Story
While the journey to birthing a sacred being into the world is nothing short of a miracle, it can be fraught with challenges depending on one’s circumstances. Upon experiencing the loss of two admirable and industrious women due to pregnancy related complications and learning about the harrowing experiences encountered by some marginalized women, the founder of Mothers Roots Initiative decided it was TIME. It was TIME to quit lamenting. It was TIME to stop feeling helpless. It was TIME to act! Simply put, she realized she could create a positive shift by focusing on the implementation of programs that improved health outcomes of marginalized women.
Mother’s Roots Initiative is reflective of the transformative power of loss. It also serves as a symbol of resilience, resourcefulness, growth and triumph.
Introduction
Mother’s Roots Initiative was established to improve the health and well-being of women and children in Ghana’s underserved areas through innovative, community-based care, grassroots engagement and emergency response. We are locally led, grounded in equity, and committed to addressing health disparities through dignity and evidence-based practices.
Recognizing the high maternal mortality rates within densely populated marginalized communities in Ghana, Mother’s Roots Initiative implements community-centered, culturally appropriate programs designed to improve health outcomes for pregnant women, mothers, and children under five in Ghana’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.
